The day after the Xterra European Championships, was the “Short Track” race, where only the best professional athletes take part. With a race duration of just over 30 minutes, the race was over hill and dale in 2/4/2 laps (swim/bike/run). A specially designed circuit provided pure excitement for all spectators, and the short track was also broadcast live.
I managed to survive the swim in a pretty decent position, onto the bike I pushed as hard as I can, stick with the strong bikers and overtake the strong swimmers.
I rode myself into 9th position and came into T2 with the Belgian Sebastian Carabin. Onto the run he pushed the pace, but I managed to overtake him in lap 1 of the run. The battle was on, originally I wanted to close the gap to my german friend Scott Anderson to take 7th. But my legs were already damaged from the bike. In the second lap, the Belgian attacked, closed the gap to Scott. I couldnt follow and secured my spot.
Just like the day before, I was able to secure 9th place and again collect valuable points towards the overall World Cup.
