The Salzkammerguttrophy is an absolute classic among mountain bikers in Europe. There are different routes, route A is 210km long. My favorite is “D” because it is the most technical of all tracks.
In 2016 and 2017 I was already at the start at SKGT, but the last few years it had never been right. The race in Bad Ischl started at 1 p.m., it had been raining for days, and it was thunderstorm when the gun started. Extremely slimy conditions made the race really exciting. There were 2 large climbs to be covered with a total of almost 200 m. Single trails made the descents really technical. Due to the heavy rain we drove partly in small streams. The starting field was really strong this time and the guys pushed the pace from the start. At the beginning I was still ahead, but over time I found myself in 13th place, where I finally finished with a sprint to the finish in Bad Goisern. Like the last two times, the event was really fun and I will definitely be back in 2022.
