After I signed up for Challenge-St. Pölten, qualified for the European Championship, I headed for the mountains last Thursday, I had got used to the altitude well, couldn't stay with a friend not far from the Race-Venue and had a perfect start into the race on Sunday, June 27th. There was another 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and a final 21km half marathon to conquer. I felt good, but also very nervous the days before.
The swim was in the pleasant and very clean Walchsee, one lap without going ashore. The bike course consisted of 2 laps with 3 larger climbs each (1200hm in total) spread over the 90km, the run was conducted in 4 laps around the lake, there were hundreds of triathlon-motivated spectators at the edge of the course and made this experience really spectacular. After 4:15:48 I finally crossed the finish line, this time in 13th place (class M 25-29). Now it's time to relax and define new goals, there are already plans.
